British jets to get new anti-drone missile systems

British fighter jets in the Middle East will be equipped with new missile systems to make it cheaper to intercept Iranian drones. Royal Air Force Typhoon jets will be fitted with an Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System (APKWS) to destroy targets more precisely and at a fraction of the price of missiles currently in use, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) announced. Gulf countries and allies in the region have been grappling with how to counter Iran's Shahed drones, which are relatively cheap to make and have been causing considerable damage. During the 2024 conflict between Israel and Iran, the UK was reported to have shot down some drones with missiles worth around £200,000 each. Defence experts have estimated APKWS rockets used by other countries cost around $30,000 (£22,377) each.

Russia is planning a protracted campaign of aerial bombardments and attacks using Iranian-made drones in a bid to "exhaust" Ukraine into submission, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. In his nightly address to the nation on Monday, Zelenskyy said that Ukraine had received intelligence that Russia would increase its campaign of drone raids on the country. "We have information that Russia is planning a long-term attack using Shahed drones," Zelenskyy said. "It is probably banking on exhaustion. Exhausting our people, our anti-aircraft defences, our energy," he said.


Air raid sirens in Kyiv as Russia launches fresh drone attacks

Air raid sirens have blared across the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, as Russia kept pounding the city for a second night in a row. The drone attacks early on Monday targeted critical infrastructure in Kyiv and the surrounding region, according to Ukrainian officials, and have wounded at least one person. "It is loud in the region and in the capital: night drone attacks," said Oleksiy Kuleba, the governor of the Kyiv region. "Russians launched several waves of [Iranian-made] Shahed drones. Targeting critical infrastructure facilities," he wrote on the Telegram messaging application.


Russia launches cluster of 13 Iranian-made drones at Kyiv in suspected energy attack

Russia launched 13 Iranian-made Shahed drones into Kyiv Wednesday, in one of the largest attempted strikes of its kind on the Ukraine capital, Fox News Digital was told. All 13 drones were apparently targeting energy infrastructure but were downed before they reached their targets and no military or civilian casualties have been reported, city administrative and defense officials said.
